Have you been dreaming of starting your business? Are you ready to take that side hustle and turn it into your full-time gig? Are you holding out because you already have a demanding job and a family to raise? Well, it’s time to get moving and get to work! Ronnie and Lamar Tyler are in the house to discuss how they started their thriving business while working their own 9-5 jobs and supporting their family.
Ronnie and Lamar Tyler are married with four children. Their lives are about as chaotic as you would expect from a six-person household.
They are also the power couple behind BlackandMarriedWithKids.com, the largest independent African American marriage and parenting site around.
The success of their website has also lead to other exciting ventures, including launching their own media umbrella, Tyler New Media, and producing and directing their own films.
But the Tylers want you to know that building their empire didn’t come easy, and it didn’t happen overnight. They sat down with us to let us in on the nitty-gritty of starting a business when you’re already working a 9-5 job and have a family of your own to support.
Ronnie and Lamar Tyler, founders of BlackandMarriedWithKids.com are here to tell you that following your dreams while raising a family can be done. They’re living proof.
But it takes a lot more than dreams and desires. It takes hard work. A lot of it.
When Tyler’s first started their website, it was a humble blog. They also were both working demanding 9-5 jobs of their own to support their children.
Most of the work that went into creating BlackandMarriedWithKids.com was done after 10 pm at night. After fixing dinner, after bathtime, after their children’s bedtime.
If you’re wondering how on earth the Tyler’s could manage to STILL put in work on their side hustle after working full time and being full-time parents you are not alone.
Their answer? Passion. Passion is such a strong emotion, and if you are truly passionate about your side hustle than the work will get done.
Another trick of the trade? Sacrifice. They realize that sacrifice isn’t as sexy as passion, but it is equally important. If you are willing to sacrifice a little of that precious free time, you will be amazed at how much you can accomplish.
Starting a business isn’t for everyone. Neither is converting your side hustle to your full-time job. But if you have the passion and willingness to sacrifice for it, then it may just be for you. But be ready to grow your business while everyone else is asleep.
–Ronnie and Lamar Tyler
Starting your own business is a full-time job all its own. Lamar Tyler wants everyone to know that if you want to take this route you need to realize you are essentially taking on two full-time jobs. That can mean a lot of late nights, and a lot of sacrifice. But it can be done, and it can become something amazing.
If you’re extremely passionate about starting a business, MAKE IT HAPPEN. Decide that it’s worth it and believe that you can do it. And once that business is up and running, don’t let the hard work stop. Keep investing in yourself and your business. Take online courses, go to conferences, meet with coaches if you need to. The more you put into your business, the more you will get out of it.
Don’t let hard work keep you from your dreams. You can accomplish your goals, just know that it may not be an easy path. But it will be SO worth it!
